By: Z Family Law

At Z Family Law, our clients come first. That’s why we’re always on the hunt for the best and brightest attorneys to join our growing team — so we can meet every single client’s discerning needs. The latest lawyer to join the firm? Meet John Weaver, a family law attorney with 40 years of industry experience representing clients in both the Maryland trial and appellate courts. John has a lifelong passion for client advocacy, and he can’t wait to bring his extensive experience to the firm’s exclusive Family Law Appellate Division. And this just in: He was recently voted one of the top 5 local appellate attorneys by Bethesda Magazine! Keep reading to learn more about John’s distinct background and dynamic expertise.

First Things First…

John’s dynamic family law background spans everything from litigation to negotiation and appellate advocacy — including the six years he spent as a Family Magistrate — and he leverages this vast expertise to help clients navigate domestic relations cases of all shapes and sizes. His track record speaks for itself; John has received The Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory’s highest rating, is listed in Maryland Super Lawyers (2015-present), and was named a Bethesda Magazine “Top Attorney” in 2019 & 2021 — to name just a few. You might recognize his name from the cover of The Seven Principles of a Just Divorce: Biblical Wisdom and Legal Insight, which he authored in 2020. The book is not only a practical guide for anyone navigating a divorce, but also a resource for the people around them who wish to be a source of support.

A Range Of Knowledge

A few of the ways John helps clients find their new beginning:

Trial and Appellate Advocacy: Need to file or respond to an appeal? We (now) have an appellate lawyer for that. Driven by his passion for oral and written client advocacy, John has appeared on more than three dozen appellate briefs and argued numerous cases before both Maryland Courts of Appeals. These appeals all tackled significant family law issues, resulting in multiple reported appellate opinions — but for John, the results he delivers for his clients are the ones that matter most. The bottom line? Whatever type of appeal you’re filing or defending against, John is here to advise you on your rights, provide practical counsel, and ardently advocate your case above all.

Setting Expectations: John’s penchant for divorce litigation and settlement from both sides of the bench has given him a unique perspective on how to protect his clients’ best interests. His mission? To provide clients with knowledgeable counsel, realistic expectations, and effective quality assistance in resolving their family law matters  — whether inside the courtroom or around the conference table.

Litigation: To John, every family law dispute matters, and he will zealously pursue yours  — whether it’s related to divorce, alimony, property division, monetary awards, child custody and visitation, child support, domestic violence, or any other domestic relations concern.

Negotiation, Mediation, Arbitration, and Collaborative Divorce: A skilled negotiator, John applies his mediation knowledge to prepare, educate, and assist clients exploring settlement alternatives beyond litigation.

When he’s not advocating for his clients, you can find John spending time with his grandchild, attending local concerts, exploring Great Falls, or cheering on his home team at professional sporting events.
